June 23, 2009 11:18 am

On June 6, 2009, the Rotary Club of Bacolod West (RCBW) formally launched their village bank project in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.  The 3-year project will benefit more than 150 women entrepreneurs from the townships of Guihulngan, La Libertad and Jimalalud with non-collateralized credit services, with the hope of ultimately stimulating the local economy and help break the cycle of poverty among the poorest.

The project is a joint undertaking of the Rotary Club of Bacolod West and the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise, British Columbia, Canada, under the Rotary Foundation of the Rotary International Matching Grant #69406.

The village bank project launch was held at the Guihulngan Branch of Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF) – Project Dungganon, which is the cooperating organization implementing the Grameen Banking methodology for this project.

The delegation from the Rotary Club of Bacolod West headed by the incumbent President, Myrna Desabelle, in-coming President Ma. Florencia Logroño, Treasurer Letty Yee and Past Presidents Mary Lecias and Elmira P. Maglasang was joined by NWTF-Project Dungganon Regional Manager, Nelmar Borbon, Area Manager Rhodora Señoron, Guihulngan Branch Manager, Gerry Sulat and several Loan Officers in welcoming the representative group of about fifty (50) women client-beneficiaries during the simple launching ceremony.
